What Your Nose May Not Know

Some people are "perfume people".  They look forward to seasonal launches, read extensive blogs on the subject, attend Sniffpalooza events...I'm just not one of them, though I always thought it would be divine to have a "signature scent".  Ultimately, I'm fickle and what I enjoy wearing in the winter, is not the same thing I feel like spritzing on in the summer on a 90 degree day with 100 humidity.  As, well there are really only a handful of fragrances that I think smell good on me.  I love certain fragrances like Hermes 24  Faubourg.  If you are wearing it around me, I may have to refrain from nuzzling your neck. On me??? Meh.

Chin Up!: Facial exercises that make a difference

I used my first anti-wrinkle  face cream at 12, so it's really not that surprising that in my twenties while living in N.Y.C., I took a Learning  Annex course how to reduce wrinkles through facial exercise. I can still remember some of the youngish male's instructions:  to a slow count of ten, say the vowels A E I O U,  holding each one in a suspended, over exaggerated 2 second hold.  Vanity be thy name...

REALLY Awful Plastic Surgery

I like to think of myself as a cultured person: I appreciate good books, film, theatre, art, architecture, interior design, fashion, history and travelling.  I also have a distinctly low brow side that enjoys the Real Housewife franchises (New York and Beverly Hills) and I regularly check in with a website called Awful Plastic Surgery.  Sometimes they feature aging Porn or current Reality "stars" that I didn't know existed.   But every now and then, you get to view a more mainstream calamity...like Suzanne Somers above.  I ask you Girls...Did you evah???

Sulwhasoo... Sulwhawho???

I have always loved at home facial masks...Not the type you simply rinse off with warm water.  No, I like the ones that adhere like latex and require dextrous peeling, preferably in large strips. What can I say? This is my idea of fun... I have been wracking my brain trying to remember a peel from my youth that got me started on this.  For once, my beloved Google and Wiki have failed me.  Does this ring a bell with anyone from the Bonne Bell era???  If so, please pipe in.

The Weekly Round Up

O.K. Lovelies!  It does feel like we are turning the corner on winter.  That plus daylight savings time, has put the "spring" back in my step.  I hope it has for you too!  Here's what my own bevy of beauties were obsessing about this week:

I Have What She's Having!

Though I had mixed feelings about Cate Blanchett's Oscar frock, my feelings about her radiant beauty never waivers.  No one else looks like Cate and in true "movie star" fashion, when she is on screen, you simply cannot take your eyes off of her.  Cate Blanchett has been the celebrity spokesperson for the Japanese Skin Care line SK-II for the last several years.  The back story, is that she was first devoted to the line and then approached to represent it.  Days after the Oscar's, (where she was universally lauded for her elegant makeup and hair), I was contacted by SK-11.  Every Red Capet article I have ever read about Cate, starts with priming her skin with her secret weapon, SK-11 Facial Treatment Essence.

'Might you be interested in sampling it'?  "YES,YES, YES!!! I replied while bowing, scraping and pinching myself at my good fortune...

Good Karma

The other day I caught sight of myself mid afternoon and realized I was looking a wee tired...except I wasn't...I think what had really happened was that my morning concealer stopped doing it's job. I am lucky not to have to camouflage dark circles every morning.  I did need  to do some type of retouching and piling on more concealer, instinctively, didn't seem to be the right solution.  WHAT TO DO???...

The Weekly Round Up

We have a nice variety of beauty products for you in this weekend's roundup. Let us know what suits your fancy!

Amy is in Paris, and we are richer for it. We loved her Café Makeup feature about her first shopping trip after she arrived.

Slight of Hands

"What possessed you"???  My sister Loren demanded to know...Good question!!! Well...it all started with 3 visits to 3 different drugstores.  Each and every one was sold out of Clairol's Root Perfect in either Medium Brown or Medium Ash Brown.  Madness! Did we all get skunky on the same day???  And then I spied a new product by Nice 'n Easy... Color Blend Foam.  Simple one step,  permanent color, with a dripless mousse consistency, that promised built in tones and highlights.  What's the worst that could happen???, I mused naively.  I was about to find out...

Wherefore Art Thou Juliet?

I had the great pleasure of meeting Juliet Stewart this year, as a fellow committee member working on the 2nd Making Dreams a Reality Fundraiser, to benefit the Ashikari Breast Center.  I am greatly honored to be both the Chairperson and Honoree for this event, on April 7th, at Tappan Hill inTarrytown N.Y.  Juliet has been  a dedicated, creative, and tireless supporter. She has a quiet, elegant manner, in an Audrey Hepburn sort of way, but make no mistake...she is a powerhouse of quiet femininity. As the owner of  the Juliet Stewart Makeup Boutique and Studio in Nyack, New York and creator of her own unique perfume, Juliet, we both share a love for the beauty industry and for helping women look and feel their very best..

A Stroke of Genius

Oh how I love a multi-tasking beauty product!!!  On my last CVS dash, I spied this new Physician's Formula product out of the corner of my eye and came to a grinding halt...Eyeliner that grows your eyelashes!!!  Genius my friends.  Here is how they describe it:

Flips and Flops- DivaDebbi Rates the Red Carpet

Part of the fun of  watching  any Red Carpet event, is the arrival of the jaw dropping, fire your stylist this instant, HOT MESS.  Yes, there were a few clunkers at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards...but I would have loved to see a few more!  Bwaahhhh!   Even Celine Dion looked understated (and impossibly thin after child birth) in Armani Prive as well as Helena Bonham Carter for Helena Bonham Carter in an original, by award winning costume designer Coleen Atwood.   I get a bit cranky about RC crashers...IMO, if you are not nominated, presenting or performing, stay home!!! (Yes, even if you are La Stone).

My three A+ faves of the evening are pictured here.  I just loved Gwyneth in this drop dead, way cool, shimmering, liquid, modern Calvin Klein gown by Francesco Costa.  Her super sleek hair was the perfect finish.  I literally gasped when I saw Mila Kunis arrive in this magnificent lavender chiffon and lace Elie Saab.  I loved her polished hair, makeup and choice of important earring.  Stunning.  Lastly, Halle Berry fully redeeming herself (after her Golden Globe woofer), in a breath taking nude crystal strapless Marchesa, with a spiral of architecturally placed ivory tulle at the bottom...Be still my heart!!!  Who else made the grade???...
